"The Cabin" at Deep Creek Lake

Ahh, vacation ... what a wonderful time we had. This was the first time we've ever been away with just our family, just for fun. Mathis caught on quickly that vacation was a very special time and he loved it!! Everything became "vacation ______." There was his "vacation bed," which was a pack and play that couldn't have made him happier! He discovered the first night that he could climb in and out of it and decided that must be part of vacation :) Then there was vacation church, the vacation cabin, and one day while in the car, he pronounced that it was the "vacation car!"

We explored the nearby waterfalls, Swallow Falls, which I had been to many times growing up. It's so fun to see everything new again through Mathis' eyes. We started out that morning at the playground. It was an older one and Mathis fell while climbing on the monkey bars. He promptly announced, that this park mad him sad and he was ready to go! So on to the falls, where we enjoyed the beautiful scenery and the colorful leaves. Mathis also discovered moss, which was as soft as carpet, and lots and lots of roots.

After naptime for everyone, we visited a new park to try to remedy the morning's unfortunate trip. The kids loved this one ... it was the perfect blend of new and old. We called Carroll while we there to wish her "Happy Birthday," and Mathis told her that the other park had made him sad, but this park made him VERY happy :) We played there for a while and then headed to a perfectly country restaurant, "Annie's Country Kitchen." Mmmmm, it was so yummy!

The next day we headed down to the lake. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we were the only ones at this park and beach area. The kids loved splashing in the water and both of them ended up getting wet from head to toe :)

Saturday brought more yard sales (they have yard sales Thur-Sat :) and a trip to the Visitors Center and the Farmers Market in Oakland. The Visitor's Center is in a Train Station built in 1884, filled with items made by local vendors. Tucked away in the back is a Brio Train Table filled with tracks and trains. The kids had a blast here ... they could have stayed all day!
