We were excitedly anticipating Matthew's arrival from Kentucky on the 14th. He's been away over 2 years since he joined the military and we were so excited that he and his fiance, Kathleen, were moving to Maryland, and had planned their wedding for Aug. Matthew drove with Kathleen to NC where she was going to spend a few weeks with her family, and headed to MD. En route, he learned that in just 3 1/2 weeks, he would be leaving for training in preparation for a one year assignment in Iraq. Although, we all new that this was a possibility as he had joined the National Guard for 3 yrs, it still came as a big surprise. But not as big as he and Kathleen's decision to get married just two days later on the 16th!!
At church on Wed. night, they had a very simple ceremony to exchange rings and are planning to have a full blown wedding when Matthew returns. Although simple, it was very touching to see them devote their lives to each other with no way of knowing what God has planned for their future. We're so blessed that Kathleen will be staying in Maryland while Matthew's away. She's a very sweet girl and we couldn't be happier for Matthew!
