Christmas Fun!

This Christmas season has been one of best. Although it's been more than busy with wedding plans, Bard finishing up his last Master's class (YEAH!!!) and the extra work that comes along with being very pregnant, being able to share Christmas with Mathis and Kate has been such fun. Some of the kids favorites are going out after dark to see the Christmas lights and finding baby Jesus in the Nativity scene at church. Everything about Christmas is new to them and Mathis especially is soaking it all in. He's been seen checking his stocking and declaring ... "still empty!" A favorite of mine is when he sees a star and says, "just like the one over Bethlehem."

We spent one Friday evening helping to decorate the church for Christmas. There was a craft and story time for the little ones and Mathis was delighted to bring home his ornament and hang it on the tree. Our Christmas tree is filled with homemade ornaments, some from our own childhood, so having one from our own little boy is so special.

Christmas Packages!!! Wow, the kids jumped in head first to open packages from Grammie & Papa (and aunts, uncles, and cousins!) and Gramma and Grandpa G! When they saw Bard get a knife, they both ran to Mathis' toolbox. Mathis came back with a hacksaw (seen in action, below) and Kate with a screwdriver. As you can see from the pictures, there wasn't much standing still. I can remember as a child how excited we were to get packages from relatives at Christmas ... okay, we still are, but it's twice the fun now to see the kid's joy. Thanks to everyone for the effort you put into sending us gifts! Today as we were wrapping presents, I asked Mathis why we give people gifts and he responded, "because we love them!" So, he surely knows ya'll love him, too :)
